GENOME ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT STRAINS OF MUCUNA PRURIENS L. USING MOLECULAR MARKERS Authors: Lahiri K
ABSTRACT
Genomic diversity in four accessions of self-pollinated velvet bean- Mucuna pruriens
(L.) DC. (comprising of varieties pruriens and utilis) were analyzed at the genomic DNA level
using RAPD and ISSR primers. Both these analyses have indicated polymorphism among these
strains. Absolute monomorphic patterns could not be obtained from any of the primers used in
this study. The present study strongly indicated that the variety pruriens is genetically more
diverse than the variety utilis. The UPGMA cluster analysis of both the RAPD and ISSR data
also clearly revealed the close relatedness of all the 3 strains of the variety utilis. The only strain
of variety pruriens is most distantly related to all the three strains of the other variety (var utilis).
