Ayurveda plays a significant role in managing common geriatric diseases amidst a global
demographic shift towards an increasingly elderly population. As advancements in medical
care and living conditions contribute to longer lifespans, understanding the prevalence and
management of geriatric diseases becomes crucial for optimizing health outcomes and quality
of life among older adults. Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, offers a holistic
approach emphasizing balance among body, mind, and spirit through dietary adjustments,
herbal remedies, and lifestyle modifications. Yoga, an ancient Indian practice, offers a holistic
approach to health by emphasizing the integration of body, mind, and spirit through physical
postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation. This practice can be
particularly beneficial for older adults, as it helps improve flexibility, strength, balance, and
mental well-being. Yoga can be adapted to suit various physical abilities and health
conditions, making it a versatile and effective form of exercise and therapy for managing
geriatric diseases Through a comprehensive search of electronic databases and manualsearches of relevant literature, this review synthesizes evidence from randomized controlled
trials, cohort studies, case-control studies, cross-sectional studies, and systematic reviews.
Primary outcomes assessed include improvements in disease symptoms, quality of life, and
functional status, while secondary outcomes encompass adverse effects and cost -
effectiveness of Ayurvedic & Yoga interventions. The findings highlight Ayurveda's & Yoga's
potential as a complementary approach to conventional medicine in managing geriatric
diseases, warranting further investigation and integration into healthcare practices f or elderly
populations worldwide.
